The newest iteration of the Nintendo DS, the Dsi, has come out of hiding! The company’s new handheld gets a 17% bigger screen (measuring in at 3.25 inches), a .3 megapixel camera, an SD memory card slot, and the ability to listen to mp3s, adjust pitch and playback. Here is Info on the new DSI!
Even before Nintendo announced it, the DSi had been the talk of the town. According to Japanese correspondents, the DSi will be 12 percent thinner (about 1mm), and will get rid of the GBA slot entirely. The DSi will also include two built-in cameras (one reportedly VGA resolution) and music playback. It will add an SD card slot and internal storage (we don’t yet know how much) to enhance its multimedia capabilities. The screens are now slightly larger at 3.25 inches, photos can be synced to the Wii Photo Channel, and the unit will include a free browser application.
The third version of the DS is aimed at protecting Nintendo’s dominance in portable gaming as Sony adds new features to the PSP and Apple Inc. enters the market with iPods and iPhones that can play motion-sensing games. In August, Nintendo forecast it will sell 30.5 million handheld machines this fiscal year, twice as many as Sony’s projected PSP sales.
So, it appears as though the rumours were true. Nintendo are indeed set to introduce a new DS model as early as November 1st this year, releasing first in Japan at a price of 18,900 Yen (US$180). The new console was announced at a Nintendo press conference last night.
The DSi will also feature built-in browsers and a DSi shop. Pricing categories at the shop for DsiWare include Free, 200 points, 500 points, and a “Premium” 800 points. New DSi owners will get 1000 points to spend at the DSi Shop before March 2010.
Nintendo is also launching the “DSi Shop” to sell content directly over Wi-Fi. Prices for the store, which are also tied into Wii Nintendo Points, and will use 0, 200, 500 and 800-point tiers. Until March 2010, 1000 Nintendo points will come bundled with the device. If there is still no WPA/WPA2 support, what good does the DS store do? And if you ARE using WEP, you better do some internet research on wireless security.
Nintendo is calling the DSi a “third platform,” implying that it’s not competing with the DS – though as a history lesson, the DS was originally a “third platform” against the now-retired Game Boy Advance.
Good or Bad these nintendo dsi photos??? the screen is only about 5mm bigger and the DSi is only around 1mm slimmer – not much. The camera a poor .3megapixel. I am sure it will do well and I will buy one but the specs are not great really. I wonder if flash cards like the M3 DS Real will be available for the new DSi, I hope so.? Hope you loved this info on the new DSI.
